The Little Sister (original title: La Petite Dernière) follows Fatima, 17, the youngest of three sisters in a French-Algerian family on the outskirts of Paris. At home she is the loving daughter and the young Muslim believer. Outside the house, she is crazy about soccer.
Then college starts. Fatima starts classes in Paris, and suddenly the world gets a lot bigger. New courses, different people, fewer judging looks. And something she has been keeping to herself: she is attracted to women.
The film takes its time with this year of discoveries. Fatima tries to figure out who she is, what she wants and how much of it fits into the life she already has. She does not want to break with her family or her faith. She also does not want to keep hiding part of herself. In that tight space, between loyalty and the urge to live, she slowly finds her footing, step by step. She downloads a dating app and, through it, meets Ji-Na, a nurse who soon crosses her path off the screen too.
