Jet Mason is 27 and lives in Woodstock, Vermont. On Halloween night, someone attacks her from behind and leaves her for dead.
She wakes up in the hospital 36 hours later with a fractured skull. The doctors give her two options. The first is immediate surgery, with a high chance she won't survive it. The second is to skip the operation and wait for an aneurysm that will kill her within a week at most. Jet picks the week.
With seven days ahead of her, she decides to spend what's left hunting down whoever did this. The plan is to solve her own murder before it finishes happening. Jet has no leads on her attacker, but she has a sharp, sarcastic streak and a stubbornness that don't fit the situation at all, and that voice drives the book.
The countdown sets the pace, with the small Vermont town deep in late-October mood. It's Holly Jackson's first adult thriller, after she made her name with the young adult series A Good Girl's Guide to Murder.
