Quick recap

Washington, D.C., 2000. A string of meticulously planned bank robberies leaves a trail of bodies. The man behind them calls himself the Mastermind and plays crime like chess, with the robbers he hires as disposable pieces. Cross, homicide detective and psychologist, joins the hunt and soon realizes the Mastermind cares more about him than the money. The mind games turn more violent and close in on Cross's family, which he scrambles to protect as the net tightens. The Mastermind's identity stays the series' big mystery for one more book.
