Quick recap

The book has three parts. In Before, a prologue shows Hardin's rough childhood in Hampstead, with his alcoholic father and the abandonment, until he lands in a fraternity at Washington Central University. Natalie, Molly, Melissa and Steph tell how they crossed paths with him. In During, Hardin himself narrates Tessa's arrival, the bet and their romance from his side. In After, several voices, including Zed, Landon, Christian Vance and his son Smith, cover the breakup and the reunion. The ending jumps years ahead: Tessa and Hardin live in a Brooklyn townhouse with their kids, Emery and Auden, and Hardin feels he has broken the cycle of bad fathers.
